The DREAM Act is was a proposal first developed by Dick Durbin and Orrin Hatch and introduced to the Senate on August 1, 2001. It’s believed to help millions of young immigrants who came to this country illegally. It serves as a motivation for many young Hispanics to continue their education and more than anything hope.
This bill has many perks to it and is designed to help these young individuals as well as the nation itself. Not EVERY Latino/Latina will be granted the right to this opportunity. This opportunity consists of being provided conditional permanent residency to specific undocumented residents with good moral character who have graduated from a U.S. high school, arrived to the U.S as minors, and have lived in the country for at least 5 years prior to the bill’s enactment.
This bill doesn’t grant a 100% of becoming an American citizen but it does give you the opportunity to get the education that is provided here in the United States and also gives you the opportunity to apply for citizenship and to get it.
Either how, this DREAM Act is such a huge help to the immigrants and to the nation as a whole.
