Immediately after viewing the video and hearing Ann Coulter’s ignorant remarks, I decided to type “define civil rights” into my google search engine. What came up is “The rights of citizens to political and social freedom and equality.” Are Civil Rights still only for blacks? No, that’s why they are called civil rights. Slavery was indeed horrific for African Americans early on in America’s history and they do deserve the rights that they have today; however, that does not mean that Latinos  Asians  native Americans  or any other “foreign” races or ethnicities do not deserve rights or equality as well. Whether it be the Irish, Native Americans, Chinese Immigrants, and more recently, Hispanic immigrants, America has never been too keen on accepting outsiders; maybe because some Americans fear that immigrants won’t assimilate.

I am truly repulsed this lady’s remarks. I tried to keep an open mind upon watching the video, but at the end I still feel negatively towards it. Saying that democrats are moving from blacks to hispanic immigrants? That had to be one of the most ignorant parts of her rant. First of all, the democrats aren’t “moving” from one race to another. They are merely addressing the issue of immigration and they are wanting to help illegal immigrants. They aren’t moving from one race to another, they are tackling a current and important issue. Like I said before, all races, all ethnicities, all genders, all people of any sexual orientation deserve equal rights, regardless of the fact that their ancestors may not have endured the evils and hardships of slavery. Which brings me to another point… Didn’t the Europeans come to North America and enslave the natives? According to my family, I have Aztec roots. Sure, that happened way before slavery in America, but weren’t my ancestors enslaved regardless? If Ane Coulter’s argument is that blacks are the only ones whose ancestors have gone through extreme hardship, then she needs to reread some of her history books. All of us deserve political and social freedom and equality.
