Pau Gasol is a Spanish professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers. Besides the fact that i grew up as a fan of the Lakers, I admire him because of his strong Spanish representation and because of his charitable work in his homeland. Gasol began his career by winning the NBA Rookie of the Year Award and went on to become a legend in the Memphis Grizzlies. He was then traded to the LA Lakers in 2008 and has won 2 championsips with this team. He has been a UNICEF ambassador since 2003. In 2009, Pau Gasol joined the Hoops for St. Jude charity program benefitting the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Gasol regularly visits Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, he does not stop at just visiting young patients. He goes on to further personalize with those who admire him as an athlete and role model. He grew up in Spain and has always demonstrated his patrioism for his country. He proudly plays on the Spanish team during the Olympic basketball games. Gasol uses his Spanish roots to help Latinos get involved in charitable work. He is a voice that will remain prominent and respectable in our culture. His causes especially include: animals, children, conservation, disaster relief, environment, health, human rights, and poverty. He recently visited drought victims in Chad. These small actions make this amazing basketball player an inspirational success story. I have become interested in Pau Gasol and his endeavors since he began playing with the Los Angeles Lakers. However, as I learned about him, I realized he is an important Hispanic role model. I am proud to be a fan of him and am more proud that he is Hispanic. It is not too difficult to find information on Pau Gasol because he has several websites along with social media networks. Besides being a very successful basketball player, he is also an honorable humanitaria,n and proud Spanish native.
